ImageHere you will study English and enjoy a warmth and hospitality (unequalled anywhere else in the world) where the culture brings the past and present to life.
Ireland is known as “The Island of Saints and Scholars” with its rich tradition of famous writers, musicians and artists.
The Claddagh school of English Ireland, has helped many young (and not so young!) people to learn and improve their level of English. Rather than being a large, impersonal English academy, the Claddagh school of English Ireland, prides itself on its ethos of warmth, expertise, familiarity and a convivial approach to education.
We would like to stress that We look after all our students as if they were our very own! We know where our students are at all times...We're like their 'shadow'!  We are very aware of the way society has changed in every country, and We are also equally aware of the huge responsibility I have accepted in looking after teenagers, who sometimes think they are adults!! Karla and I, have total confidence in our teachers and our coordinators.., we are a great team!

Location

ImageDungarvan is a good sized market town with a population of about 8,000 nestling on the beautiful bay in west county Waterford.  It is full of many attractions for all types of visitors. This charming town is an ideal setting for The Claddagh School of English Ireland. It’s wonderful seaside location helps in striking the perfect balance between the academic expertise and cultural entertainment activities for our students which results in them returning home having thoroughly enjoyed their stay and substantially increasing their fluency in the English Language
Dungarvan, with its nearby beaches and hills, provides a variety of holiday activities for students to include fishing, kayaking, hill walking, rock climbing, archery, golf, badminton, volleyball, basketball, tag-rugby, football etc.

Culture
For visitors interested in Irish Culture,  Dungarvan Museum explains the history of the whole area and the Old Market Art Centre holds art exhibitions throughout the year. King John's Castle opens its gates and exhibition to the public during the summer months. You can see traditional crystal crafting and glass cutting at Comeragh Crystal and try Slateways for unique art created from locally sourced slate and mirrors.

Outdoor activities
You can hike through The Comeragh Mountains or take a more leisurely walk near the town in Colligan Woods, the Cunnigar or the Cruachan and Famine Walks which are all mapped out for you. See the amazing scenery of the area up close. Or if you prefer cycling to walking there are many cycling routes in the area which can take you through the Comeragh Mountains, Nire Valley, the Gaeltacht An Rinn overlooking Dungarvan bay and many other villages around the area. For those who want to take it at a more leisurely pace, there are also several well signposted scenic drives throughout this beautiful countryside.
Dungarvan is an ideal base for fishing and golfing. There are a few championship golf courses in the locality and the fishing is perfect with the River Blackwater and Suir close by as well as the trout fishing in Cappagh Lakes. Deep sea fishing trips are available from Dungarvan harbour too.

Host families
All Host Families are carefully selected by us.
We always visit and inspect the accommodation provided and I meet the family including their ‘Pets’!!
Students are taken to school by car each morning at 08.45... This gives them a little time to mix and get to know one another before commencement of class at 09.00. The Host Families collect their students each evening at 17.45 and spend the evening together.  The importance of this time spent with the host family cannot be overemphasized as the student has the opportunity to integrate with the entire family ensuring full immersion in the English language and at the same time gaining a valuable cultural insight into Irish life.   Generally host families accept 2 students... 1 Italian and 1 Spanish and perhaps a French Student,  this is always a good idea as they help each other to 'settle in'.  We NEVER place two students of the same Nationality with a Host Family unless previously requested.

Teachers

ImageOur teachers are IRISH and are chosen for their ability to relate to teenage children and all progress is carefully monitored during the month. Due to the fact that the outcome of the placement test may not reflect the true ability of the students (due to nervousness) our teachers may move students up or down a grade depending on their progress. All teachers employed by The Claddagh School of English are fully qualified and have a University Degree.  We cater for all levels from beginners to proficiency level.
